Ionization potentials The ionization potential is the least energy,
expressed in electron volts, which is necessary to remove an electron from a
free unexcited neutral atom (or additional electron from an ionized atom).
It can be determined either directly from the speed of the slowest electrons
which will ionize the atom by collision, or more accurately from the limit
of a spectroscopic series |
